On 16^th April, 2008, leaders and experts of 2^nd conference of “Fast Elimination Malaria by ACTs” came together in International Meeting Room of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine located in Guangzhou Campus City. The main topic of this meeting was to study and discuss the project of “Fast Elimination Malaria by ACTs” presided by Professor Li Guoqiao, startup the project evaluation of pilot site in Cambodia and reported the developing condition of extensional sites in Comoros.

This meeting was directed by State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and undertaken by Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine. It also got supported from ministries and commissions such as Ministry of Health, State Food and Drug Administration, etc. Relevant leaders and experts attending this meeting included: Li Daning, Deputy Chief of State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Wang Xiaoping, Deputy Director, Wu Zhendou, Deputy Division Director, Chen Xingyu, Deputy Director of Department of International Cooperation, State Food and Drug Administration, Xia Gang, Deputy Director of Blood Prevention Division, Disease Control Bureau, Ministry of Health, Peng Wei, Deputy Director General of ministry of health of Guangdong province and Director General of Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Guangdong Province etc.

This meeting was hosted by Wang Xiaoping, Deputy Director of State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the opening speech was first made by Xu Zhiwei, president of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, he briefly introduced the achievement and future plan of “Fast Elimination Malaria by ACTs” project in Cambodia and Comoros led by Professor Li Guoqiao. Doctor Tan Bo in Research Center of Artemisinin reported the phase achievement of this project developed in Comoros for 3 months. Doctor Song Jianping reported the achievement of this project enforced in Cambodia for 3 years and introduced an evaluation proposal of this project made by both Cambodia and China. Leaders and experts had an ardently discussion about the achievement and future plan of this project, in addition to, they introduced lots of constructive opinions of improvement. Also, leaders in relevant ministries and commissions expressed support for Artemisinin project and pointed out there were important value and significance for Chinese strategy of aiding Africa.

Finally, Li Daning, Deputy Chief made a conclusion that he highly ensured the outstanding contribution of antimalarial team in the antimalarial area of Artemisinin, and emphasize the project of “Fast Elimination Malaria by ACTs” was deserved to further consummate and develop. He pointed out Chinese strategy for Africa could not work without antimalarial program; Global antimalarial program could not work without Chinese voice. Under the current background of global academic communication, Chief Li heartily wished that we kept comprehensive and exoteric mind to reinforce international cooperation of technology, and improved constructive communication of global academic field for the research of antimalarial of Chinese Artemisinin under the innovative foundation. He requested antimalarial group of Artemisinin research evaluated and established evaluation proposal independently for Cambodia project, paid attention to the dual character of object development in practical work, grasped the direction and hoped Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine continue to undertake a long-range planning for antimalarial research of Artemisinin.
