On February 21, 2008, the 9-member health delegation composed by Ministers and officials of Ministry of Health from Lesotho, Malawi and Zambia, as well as the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Secretariat and the World Health Organization (WHO) African Regional Office visited The Planting and Production Base of Artepharm with accompany of Mr. Wu Zhendou from State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), P.R.C., the delegates from Guangdong Administration of TCM, Vice President Wang Xinhua from Guangzhou University of TCM and Mr. Li Zhongliang, CPC Secretary of Fengshun County and Mr. Li Mingquan, the Head of the County and Mr. Zhu Layi, the President of Newsouth Group and Dr. Song Jianping from Research Center for Qinghao, Guangzhou University of TCM and other people.

Mr. Zhang Qingmin, General Manager of Artepharm Co. Ltd, accompanied the delegation to have visited the Artemisia Base and introduced the construction of Artemisia industrial Chain of Artepharm that according to EU GMP standard construction of modern production equipment, it can provide safe, efficient Artemisinin medicines to meet the need for global eradication of malaria. Subsequently the delegation conducted a talk on the achievements of the FEMSE Project in Comoros with Artemisinin Combination developed by Professor Li Guoqiao and his team from Guangzhou University of TCM. Dr. Mphu Ramatlapeng, Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Lesotho said that she would like to see that Professor LI Guoqiao team’s artemisinin-based combination and the "FEMSE" project would benefit African population at an early date.

At the morning of February 22, the delegation also visited the Artemisia Resources Research Base and then highly praised Artepharm on the efforts and achievements in the field of Artemisia research and hoped to use the technology to help Africa grow Artemisia annua L in order to give further play to the advantages of Chinese medicine. Dr. Ossy MJ Kasilo, Regional Adviser, Traditional Medicine, Essential Medicines Unit, Division of Health Systems and Services Development, WHO Regional Office for Africa, said that he hopes Chinese medicine in the near future will contribute to the health of African people.
